Re: Sierra Nevadas and Yosemite

I wish we would have seen more game, just deer out there this time. I'm not sure exactly where we went in, a buddy was driving and serving as tour guide. I'll have to ask him. It is beautiful country. I kept telling my buddy "If you turn around and I've run off, just keep going man, it's probably in...

Sierra Nevadas and Yosemite

Just got back earlier this week from a trip out to California. Hiked into the Sierras/John Muir Wilderness and did a night hike up 10,400 feet to Blue Lake from Lake Sabrina. Buddy and I thought we heard a mountain lion on the way up only to see scat on the way down. Stayed the first night at the Mt...

Crawfish, Boudin, and Wild Duck Jambalaya

The duck was wild, the crawfish not so much, and I almost scored boudin from wild hog but there was none left, but it's boudin nonetheless Here's the recipe: 3 large onions, chopped 2 bell peppers, chopped 1 cup of oil (I used peanut) 8 oz. of tomato sauce 6 oz. of tomato paste 1/2 cup chopped green...

Re: Homemade hotdogs...

That's just not right. I'm supposed to grill bratwursts and hotdogs for a birthday party this weekend. I WAS looking forward to it. Now I think I'll just remember those dogs and pout the entire time.

It is possible that I may lay down and kick my feet too if the feeling moves me.

Re: Duck Etouffee

No problem. Here's the recipe:

I didn't boil the duck but I did marinate it in buttermilk overnight. Next time I'll use peanut oil for browning the duck and making the roux, and take longer to make the roux.

Duck Etouffee

Through a generous donation of a local hunter nearby I was able to make some duck etouffee. I think I rushed the roux and had to cook it a little faster than I should but I had people waiting. The picture could be better but you get the idea. My wife and oldest daughter turned their noses up but my ...

Re: Ever to late to start?

This is all very hard to read while sitting in a cubicle under flourescent lights on a Friday :) There is nothing more beautiful than a sunrise on a frosty morning from 20' up. Or the sun making it's final dip over the trees in the afternoon. I second that. Most recent memory like this that I have i...

Re: Ever to late to start?

Appreciate it guys. I was talking to a friend at work that hunts around Avon Park and he was saying the same thing, you just have to get out there and do it. I'm still building up my gear right now and I have a friend who has a lease that was at least previously willing to take me so I think that wo...

Re: Bass Pro fall sale

I was in there a week or so ago getting some BreakFree CLP, never thought about Amazon though. I second Terrible Ted about this area, where I live has had 200%+ growth just from 2000-2010, it's sad. Sometimes around here I feel like the lone redneck that was peeled off the herd by the urbanite cheet...

Re: Ever to late to start?

Thanks everybody, that's definitely encouraging. I don't know what I'll get in this year but I definitely want to be hunting next year. I've got two young girls so like you ArcheoGator, I want to get them around that early so hopefully it will catch on with them and I'll know they can take care of t...

Ever to late to start?

I'd like to get y'alls thoughts on this. Do you think it's ever too late to start hunting? When I was younger I used to hunt squirrels with my cousins around Lake Butler. I grew up running around the woods until developers annihilated most of the green in our area. I've been all over Ocala, Withlaco...
