New year's wish

I would like to wish the FOHAF folks a Happy and Prosperous New Year! Hoping your New Year is filled with good health and coolers full of fish and venison along with bounty from successful gardens! Enjoy God's creation as we live in this crazy world of political correctness.

Welcome wgarcar1! I shot a 300 Blackout on the AR platform last year. It was a sweet rifle, even though I hunt with traditional walnut and blue steel bolt action rifles, I'd like to have one. When you can post some pictures of your hog hunting know that we love to read an account and see the picture...

Re: Cooler/Ice Chest

SWAMPFOX, Yeti coolers withdrew their support from the NRA if you recall. I know there are comparable coolers on the market but is a cooler with that capability really needed? Folks on a week long trip away from civilization could justify the high priced extra quality coolers but just for the back o...

Congratulations, Carl! Coming from your own place is very special. If the other 8 was chasing, he’ll probably be back.

Re: Hounds Running Deer in North Florida

Another good video! The sound of the dogs coming close always gets your heart to beatin' a little faster, even watchin' on a screen, expecting ol' big boy to jump out on the grade and stop, giving you time to light him up!
I'll keep watchin"!

Re: Deer Dog Drive - Buck Down!!

Another good one, EBO! What part of the world is that lease? Kinda' neat to have a paved road running through it. Our two trail roads are terribly wet, wetter than I've ever seen. In some spots we can just turn the wheel loose and let it follow the ruts like a train track. Again the technology is so...

Glad you had a good hunt. Back straps and spaghetti is one combo I haven’t tried, yet, however I am quite familiar with spaghetti sauce made with venison! Did you take any pictures. You know we like pictures.

Re: Little 6 point betrayed by two big does

Bossman, the Good Lord willing, we are going to try and get a doe the last week-end of the month out of the ol' clay pit. North of I-10 they are having a 2 more doe days this week end, this pit is 0.6 miles south of the big road. In my opinion, you can only hunt this stand successfully when there is...

Little 6 point betrayed by two big does

Got in the woods about 4 pm this afternoon, it was about 42 degrees and has been overcast for the last couple of days. A big doe came into the clay pit and headed for the gravity feeder. Soon another big doe was working her way up the bank toward the feeder. They played musical chairs for a bit and ...

Re: Deer Dog Drive - Thanksgiving Weekend Part II

Enjoyed this one, too! Sure miss all that kind of excitement. Got to thinking about how nice it must be to be able to run out there and catch a dog, my old knees won't allow it any more, every step needs to be deliberate anymore.
Y'all keep postin' the videos and we'll keep watchin'!

Re: Fluffing up last years food plot

The "trailer stand" yielded up a little 5 point, 1st deer for a grandson on Thanksgiving (pics in another post). I put a camera close to the big gravity feeder a few days before Thanksgiving and the date strip on the camera is all out of whack, this one went through the hurricane but it did get a bu...

Re: 1st Deer Dog Drive of the Season - Close Up with Deer!

Enjoyed y'all's video immensely! Brings back memories of 50 years ago. Of course we didn't have all the electronics y'all use today, we only had the CB radios, pickups, old jeeps and horses. Old men would have us younger guys ride with them so we could hear the dogs and tell them where to start look...

That sounds like a good idea! Maybe ol' big boy will come by and you can give him a ride in the back of the truck.

Just a couple of thoughts and comments on road kill. Back when I was gainfully employed, four schools, the district office and our maintenance shop were in Chipley, we also had three schools in the town of Vernon. My crews picked up several deer over the years that were fresh road kills on that 17 m...
