Island hog hunting.

Post by Cr0ck1 » Tue Apr 12, 2016 8:48 pm

Ok i got this john boat and want to start to get out to little islands that have hogs.

I live in Croom but am close to green swamp and richlom. (Just to give you a location).

Questions.
1. Where are some good islands to hog hunt?

2. Is it true that there are some islands (public) where you can hunt hogs all year long.

Now i have a little 12' jon boat so its not like im trying to crash rapids or nothing lol.

The past 2 years i put hunting aside to tend to catching up on life stuff.

This coming year im back!

Any land below the high water mark is the demarcation for public domain when coming in by boat. However, I have been told to be very careful when following this rule depending on who is in charge of enforcing the laws, State, FWC, county, local, etc. There is a WMA down here where coming in by boat is not allowed, although there is plenty of land below the high water mark that can be hunted.

Include me in the IM also, I'm boat shopping as we speak. I have often wondered about islands and what the laws are.

You need to talk to your local FWC. I have talked to my area property managers and FWC. They know were the boundary's are mostly. our river can go up and down 6 feet easy. Remember wma include everything inside there boundary water included. Technically duck hunting in side some on the river is illegal without a quota permit if you ever step out of your boat.

Anyone ever get info on this? I'd like to use my dad's old v-hull I've been working on to harvest some hogs! That sounds really fun.

Potts Preserve (everything west of the mngmt area) is good example of this. Not far from you either. You can come in from the Tsala Apopka chain and kill hogs are year long. SWFMD did away with the specialized permit about two years ago, so no worries there either. They have adopted a "zero" hog tolerance policy. Shotguns only and you can also walk through the main gate or use your ADA to drive in. Whatever you do, stay west of the main road.
