1 Week till the hunt!!

Post by Sharkhog » Wed Aug 08, 2012 9:53 am

Who is excited? There is 3 of us and we pulled a permit 1st week, 2nd week, and 3rd week. Going to be busy as heck the next three weeks. This year we bought 2 crossbows and trying this method instead of harpoons. Does anyone know if the scopes on crossbows do ok at night time with gators? I am imagining it might be a pain in the butt. Will post pictures up in a week or so as we get it done.
Not sure if I would rather be locked up with a 12 ft shark or helping dogs pull down a big ole hog.

Oh I am excited! Between the 3 of us, we have 6 Tags this year. We are doing the Harpoon too. I rigged mine with no scope and a simple red laser pointer. My fingers are crossed. I am WAYYY better prepared this year. I still am kicking myself for loosing that 12 footer last year by not having the right equipment!!!!

I did not even think of using a red laser instead of a scope. I still have a week to get one and practice sighting it in. What range are you using? I am thinking 20 yards is a good range for sighting in the scope.

I'm stoked, first time going out. Gonna use the harpoon method. Hopefully we get something.

Fishindad are you shooting with the gator arrow with the string and all sighting it up? I know it drops rather fast with that string on it. H60mech where are you hunting? We did harpoon last year but we did not use bait and could not get super close and lost a few huge gators due to it last year.

you wont learn until you try.

bag stick
harpoon( 8-10 foot pole) And tip- with rope and buoy.

that's the basic equipment
other equipment
hook large trebble
bow or cross bow with fish arrow -with roap and buoy.
2 inch x 1inch wood peg attached to a rope.

You run up on a gator and stab it with the harpoon it primal that what make it so much fun.
