BUCKSHOT IN A SLUG BARREL

Post by JBUG308 » Wed Dec 18, 2013 8:15 am

I'm sure that the subject title has grabbed some of your attention. I have a guy that works with me and he claims he has shot 00 buck out of his 22" fully rifled slug barrel for years and never had a problem. Shoots the sabot slugs as well.
Now I'm no expert, but I could swear that I read years ago that this was a big no-no. Am I right? I'm not gonna go back and throw any info back at the guy, just wanna make sure things haven't changed over the years.

I don't think it would hurt it but might not shoot very well.

yep seen it myself donuts out from the rifling and leaves a bit of lead fowling in the grooves.

is the buck shoot in the wad case when traveling down the barrel?

Yes, but the rifled barrel causes the wad with buck shot inside to spiral just like a rifled slug and you get the round "donut" pattern past 10 yards.
