Anyone going to the Hilochee WMA dove field Saturday? The FWC report is that the field is in good condition, but with some hog damage, whatever that means, as to how extensive and how it may affect dove numbers, I guess no one knows. The report also said that dove numbers were fair. I guess there will be some shooting, but probably few limits.

Anyone afraid of getting rained out on the dove opener?

Sorry Russ, I have a table at the Hernando county sportsman club swap meet tomorrow, + I haven't fired a shotgun since last season & don't even have my license or mig bird stamp yet. I'm also booked the weekend of 10/10. looks like they are full anyway. maybe 2nd phase when weather is cooler anyway. To anyone that DOES GO, please give us a report, & good luck. If they are saying no to 60$ a head, they must REALLY be full, of birds hopefully. Next year I hear they are putting in a drive thru window, so you can show up & shoot without turning the truck off, LOL. :skeet

I was at the Hilochee WMA dove field. It was just too wet and too much rain. I just saw a few distant doves; nothing to shoot at. There was a lot of shooting in another field near us, but I don't know if they were seeing many shootable doves, or just sky blasting. I could not get to the far end of the field with my 2 wheel drive truck as the road was just too wet and muddy; that's where most of the shooting was coming from. Could not see it from our position, but could hear it. There was lots of rain and the field was wet. Everything, including me got soaked. Maybe it will be better next Saturday, but the forecast calls for lots of rain all week.

No, this is the Hilochee WMA on HWY474 which is off SR33, between Polk City and Clermont, in Lake County.

Well I went out to the dove field in Haines city by myself. Had a
Few birds come in dropped two but other hunters dropped several.
I don't understand or know anything about the field being full I showed
up late and picked a spot and all was good. Only saw about twenty trucks
and about forty hunters. Thanks to the guys that helped me push start
my truck after the starter crapped out and yes it was pouring rain.
