Anybody know of a no frills quail hunt?

Post by redneckd1 » Mon Mar 14, 2011 7:42 pm

I just went on my first quail and it was terrific. However, I was there for the hunting and not the extras, meals etc...
Anyone know of a place that you can hunt quail, but maybe you have to bring your own drinks and a sandwich if you want to eat?
Just curious to see if there is an operation that focuses more on the hunt and not so much on the red carpet treatment.

Well you will have to wait until fall but here is a link on fwc. myfwc.com/hunting/by-species/small-game/ I wasn't sure where you are located so this link has them all. These are WMA's so no red carpet treatment there (unless you bring your own).

Welcome to the site, What part of the state are you in and how far are you willing to drive? At this point you are looking for a pay location if you wish to to shoot quail.

Piney Top Quail preserve up by Madison Florida....1/2 day or full day hunt...great dogs and handlers....mostly pen raised birds, which is very common now in most places. You get a lot of birds for the money and they dont charge by the bird. The half day hunt is plenty. Went with my son a while back....half day in the morning....I think we got 74 birds between the two of us, and they were flying hard and fast and lots of trees to shoot around. They clean em and bag for you and they have a nice lodge there if you want it for the night before and thats pretty reasonable too. We had a great time and would def. go againl. If I can find the number I'll send it along to you.

I don't know how far you will travel but, there is a place in Bronson. I think the name is watermelon quail ranch, or something like that. I can find the info if it's not to far.

1/2 day 350$ and season closed (or they ran out of birds, won't re-open for quail til like next winter), call for exact dates.

$350 for two guys, unlimited birds for a half day is a great price. I'd be in for one of those hunts ($175.00 each), sh_t I'll even drive. We need to schedule one of these hunts for this fall....

I was told it was $350 for a pair of hunters and unlimited birds for a half day. $350 per person is too much even with unlimited birds.

If you find a better hunt, with guides and a nicer bunch of people, over freshly rotated dogs, unlimited birds, and they clean and prep too, for less.......please let me know....I'm going......

I sure will. $350 is to rich for my blood for a half day. Sounds like a great bunch and hunt. My problem is I could shoot sporting clays, trap and skeet for three or four days straight for that kind of money and have money left over for lunch everyday.
