Looking for a trail dog

Post by Iluv2hunt » Tue Aug 05, 2014 6:27 pm

Prefer a Catahoula or a BMC. Wanting a dog I can take to the woods with me every weekend and be my trail dog if I need it
Thanks

Lol catahoula is a good dog. For just trailing id get a walker hound. Beagles are great too BUT they are a pain in the azz sometimes.

There's a ton of free to $50 pups right now on the Central Florida Hog Dog FB page. Most of their Catahoulas ain't Catahoulas but they still have noses I guess.

Trail dog for blood ? or hog hunting ?
My buddy had a cur dog that would blood trail a deer till the bitter end as long as it didnt cross a hog trail and If so you could forget it. I have had cur dogs all my life and love them but they can be hard headed and tend to lack the descipline alot of other breeds have. Ill be getting a lab before long for my next family/blood dog. I have seen a few that were great at it and were less likely to vere off on trash once on a trail.
Good luck with your search..

I am wanting a trail dog for blood trailing. I got out of dog hunting years back. I lost a couple deer in bow season last year, that I think a dog could have easily have found. It would be nice to have a dog I can take with me every weekend, and if need be, run back to camp and get it. I also want something with enough grit that if an animal is not dead and we jump it while trailing, the dog will at least bay it if I need to turn it loose

I have been thinking and looking. Just haven't figured out which to get. The season is abt to start and I'm running out of time. The wife is worried abt her spoiled dachshunds getting hurt or i would just use one of them.

Going to look at some cur dog pups in the morning. This guy seems to know what hes talking about and hunts the parents hard. I kinda decided a few days ago I wanted to get a puppy instead of an older dog so I can train it myself

Puppy is the way to go so you are the only one teaching it bad habits.
