Question: soldiers deployed to Kuwaint

Post by Mr. Lolo » Tue May 13, 2014 8:14 am

Wife and I are spending some quality time with our son who is deploying to Kuwait in a couple of weeks. Although I know the place is relatively safe, I never deployed there while in the service and have no clue as of how easy or difficult it will be to communicate with him, send him care packages, etc. He is taking a laptop with him and his cellphone. Anyone have firsthand experience?

Lois, You've came to the right place to ask this question. As usual someone in the FOHAF has the answer for ya. I went to Kuwait in 03-04 and at that time things were ok with plenty of opprotunities to make phone calls and internet. I'm sure that things have done nothing but got better since I was there I saw several different places over there and can inform you a little more when you know just where he'll be staying. Shoot me a PM when you know where he'll be.

Lots of access for communications. Depending on where it could be anything from internet in his room to a communal internet drop. Mail takes about a week. Sometimes more during the peak periods. DO NOT use a phone from here in the US. Just trust me on this one. Just use the ones they provide in the call centers or buy one when he gets there.

I use facebook to talk to my sons while there over there. I worried every day when the oldest was in Afghanistan with his bomb dog running missions.
