Im looking to purchase a "good" camera. Not sure what route to go (cannon, nikon ect).

I dont want old technology, nor something that im going to have upgrade to in a couple years. A good high quality "keep for a while" digital camera. I was looking at some that were 25 MP not sure if thats good or up to date? I also want the cheapest price for the most camera.?

Any opinions or help would be greatly appreciated!

The first question would be what are you going to use it for? Filming hunting,Taking pictures of models, Or just Family vacation pictures? A SLR Camera or point and shot?

Was looking at the Nikon D5300

Something like that. Not too high end , not too low end.

We use Canon's at work. The T3 is a very nice camera for the $$. Does video too. There isn't going to be much difference between Canon's and Nikon's at the average Joe consumer level. Both will give very similar results. The buttonology is different and the lenses won't interchange. I've used Nikon's during training and there is absolutely nothing I could complain about other than I learned on a Canon so the buttons were different on the Nikon...

If you plan on just doing "auto" mode point and shoot then buy the cheapest camera you can IMO. If you are going to use Full Manual or any of the "semi manual" modes as I call them then invest wisely....$$$

The Lens means more than the camera.

Oh, and 25 MP is nothing to scoff at. Assuming you have a good lens you will get a very nice result.

I looked at the Nikon D5300 since I wasn't familiar with it.

For a very marginal amount of extra money you are getting a better camera with the Nikon over the T3. Both are real solid cameras. But you will have to buy better lenses to really see what they offer.

You could buy a decent rifle and shot for that price.
