Thermocell Max life

Do not buy these,
All it is, is pads 3 times longer. Instead of cutting the pads into pieces that fit into your unit, they made the pad 6 inches long.

I have not even seen these yet, could they be for those new lanterns I see at Basspro?

I had 2 thermacells from years back. I let a buddy borrow one and he left it in the woods and lost it. He bought me the new style and I used it and noticed that it would burn through the pad twice as fast as the old style.
My guess is that the company couldn't stop people from refilling the fuel cells so they turned them up hotter to burn the pads faster.
To get around this, I cut the regular pads in half and I can hunt almost all day with one pad.

I could see a bigger heating element for a bigger pad. A bigger pad for the same size heater element doesn't make much sense. Not only did I refill the butane cartridges but 1 8oz bottle of permetherin*10 from an ag store will make gallons of solution to re-soak the old pads. I doubt the fumes from either home made or store bought are good for you in an enclosed space.

I use the permetherin to spray my clothes. I'll have to try out the soaking of the pads and see how that works.

Try and get the mix correct, match the % of permetherin with the store bough pads.

allethrin D is the chemical in the pads not permethrin

NOT A CHEMIST, but allethrin D sounds like it might be a brand name for the same Permethrin, (or very similar) used in many human bug sprays & for animals/barns etc. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK & be sure of your dilutions. It wouldn't hurt to check with someone that uses these chemicals for a living, like Walter White. LOL

PYRETHRIN/PERMETHRIN/ALLETHRIN

Post by nachogrande » Sun Dec 11, 2016 8:11 am

Per a quick google search. Pyrethrin is derived from chrysanthemum flowers, permethrin is a synthetic form of the same thing. Both are used for similar things. Allethrin is listed as one of the major ingredients. Allethrin D was not mentioned. If used INCORRECTLY ALL could be dangerous, ESPECIALLY for cats. I still have my doubts about using the homemade OR store bought inside of a tent or enclosed blind. On the other hand I wouldn't want to be in an enclosed area with someone smoking either. USE IT OR NOT at your own risk.
