St. Vincent Island
I was looking on permit Availability and have noticed that St. Vincent Island has several slots available for both whitetail and sambar deer hunts. a friend and myself was wondering if the hunting has started to decline there or why they are having left-over permits.

They have leftovers because people put in for it but then...
- Don't want to pay for the hunt.
- Can't get time off work / family.
- Can't get access to a boat.
- Don't want to drive that far.
- Aren't prepared for such a hard hunt.

Re: St. Vincent Island
The sanbar hunt gives you until Aug. something to pay for it. I've been seeing it slowly go down as people get around to paying.
The other two hunts will slowly sell, last year all of the primitive weapon hunt sold by about two months before the hunt, and the archery one may not have sold out completely. It's 4 hours for us to get there, then the boat ride if we don't bring one with us. I have not decided yet if we're going.

A lot of folks will return it also...when they figure out you actually have to hunt on that hunt

Re: St. Vincent Island
We didn't get drawn but got our point. That should almost guarantee next year. We already made other plans now for that weekend this year. We are going on the primitive weapons hunt though. Instead of staying in a cabin at the ramp I rented a nice house right down the road for just a couple bucks more. With the way the returned permits can be gotten so fast this year I predict the number of quota permits being reduced in the next few years. There is normally around 120 hunters but I'll guess you'll see 150-170 this year.

Re: St. Vincent Island
I know this thread is old. But has anyone been in the last couple of years? If so, I would like to ask a few questions via PM, text or phone call.
It looks like it would be a fun and exciting trip.
