Devils hammock wma

Post by betio » Wed Jul 29, 2015 1:34 am

Howdy all....hope everybody is getting there hunt choices. I have never hunted devils hammock but picked it up on a reissue. I generally hunt citrus, flying eagle, lake pan, or potts but didnt have anything for early season archery till i got devils hammock. Most folks say its nothing special some say you'd be well surprised. Im new to forum talk but figured id ask if anybody knew anything about this management area. Happy hunting to all!

Devils Hammock is a place that you have to do your homework on but can be very productive. All of the property around it has been no hunting for 5-6 years and there is deer that die and never have seen anyone. I live 20 minutes and have hunted it several times. two things to carry for sure... waders and snake boots. The West border road is 13-15 miles long Hammocks are a walk on the West side for the most part. The East side isn't near as far but oak hammocks are near. But that is where most people will go because they don't have to work so hard to find a place to hunt. Plenty of hogs most places just be prepared to walk a little unless you like hunting next to people. Locals hunt pretty hard because of the walk-on permits.

Maybe I missed it but I didn't see you come on board. Tell us about that yourself and a little bit about the profile pic that you've picked? Minds wonder...

Sweet! 33 originally from Lutz fl. Joined the marine corp right out of high school. Earned corporal and a 60mortar section. Went to iraq on the invasion with 3/2....part of 2nd MEB...ultimately task force tarawa and ended up at a town called An Nasiriyah doing search and rescue for the remainder of jessica lynch convoy. Long story short...we were ambushed and it turned into a two week battle with 28 marines killed. 1/3 Of that by our own A-10s. One more tour to djibouti, east africa and my time was up. Been doing air conditioning for the last ten years.....commercial, residential, new construction, service, change outs....you name it. I gave all that up and now im full time back in school at pasco-hernando state college, working part time at the VA. I love to hunt all over central florida....i use to hunt ft.mccoy the most cause i could walk out my grandmas back porch and be in the wma. Archery is my favorite....i have not and never will flag a trail and i say a prayer over every animal I harvest....re assuring the lord it will not be wasted. I enjoy hearing what yall have to say and im always up for learning something new.

Wet is mild to say and the 24" culverts were all full. Every where there are culverts they are at least 24" Most places the ditches are 5' + deep Saw 8-10 gators all at the culverts catching food.

My club isn't far from there. I'm sure it is much of the same.
