There is very little "out there" on the history before it became an WMA. My father and I did a lot of hunting there in the 60s and 70s and am very interested in what went on before that. We spent many a night in the Beehead Camp which has since been moved to the park in Ft. Christmas. Anyone out there with "stories"?

it was private hunting - cattle. Outlaws would sneak in from the river to hunt
