New member from Denmark

Post by 300winmag » Sun Jul 03, 2011 3:34 pm

Hi all

I am a 30 year old guy from Denmark, Scandinavia (northern Europe).

I'm visiting my parents and brother in Miami in one week from now. I will be staying for two weeks with my wife and kids.

I just got my hunting permit in Denmark (this requires many hours of lessons in animal-recognition, laws/regulations, weapon handling plus a written test and a test in weapons handling and range finding (using your eyes only. no rangefinding instruments).

I just bought a Browning A-bolt Stalker stainless .300 win mag and a Colt M16 .22 lr semi-auto. Unfortunately I can't bring these with me to the states.

I am looking for a hog hunt in Florida while I'm there. I have been looking at many different outfitters websites. My first choice was Mike in gainesville (Trapper Dan) as he seamed like a fantastic guide. Unfortunately the drive from Miami is too long for a 1-day trip.

I would love to hear your recommendations on Hog hunting closer to Miami. Maybe around Ft. Meyers or Okeechobee. I'm looking for free range, no fence, fair chase hunt. spot and stalk-style or from tree stand.

I have been looking at Chappy's, Longwood Hammock, Outwest Farms and Osceola Outdoors.
I was thinking of maybe going for a small gator but I think I'll start with hog.

Which one of these would be the best hunting experience for me? I have no prior hunting experience but many years of rifle and hand gun training.

As regards to bringing home the meat/trophy head/scull I think it's gonna be difficult. Is there a way of donating the meat to somebody who would benefit from it? As I am on vacation I won't be able to cook pork every day for two weeks :rolleyes

Well, I guess that's it for me. Should I post this request for recommendations somewhere in the Hog forum too?

Welcome to the site. :toast I think we have had a few member that have used Chappy's. They should jump on and let you know how things went for them.

Hi guys.

I'd love to hear from people who went to Chappy's or some of the other places I mentioned.

In Scandinavia we hunt different deer, stag, rabbit, fox, hog, moose and many different birds.

I took my son to Chappy's last year. Bret's a real nice guy and will
definitely put you on some hogs. Have fun!

Thanks. Chappy's sounded great. However I chose to go with Osceola Outdoors by recommendation of Mike from Gainesville (Trapper Dan)
