I have not been out there in many many years. You could even come down a little more south and camp at Mayaka State park.

Myself and four friends live in the Tampa Bay area and don't want to go to far. We saw Lake Manatee and it looked nice. Looking to do some fishing.

It's only about a hour more away and would be worth the trip sometime. The fishing is pretty good there to.

Shoot, coming down I-75 it ain't but another 20-25 minutes to Myakka State Park from where you turn onto SR64. By the time you turn onto SR64 and get out to Lake Manatee you could be down to Clark Road (SR72), then it's just 10 minutes or so out to Myakka. I've never camped at either place, but I know folks who have and they are both nice places to spend a weekend.bodysnatcher wrote:It's only about a hour more away and would be worth the trip sometime. Do you know if you can fish either place without a boat, or would you need a boat?

Yes, you can fish both without a boat. Watch those gators though.
Re: Camping Lake Manatee
I camped at Myakka and the campgrounds are very nice. Caught some panfish in the pond in the southern part, saw some big bass jump and a nice 7 foot gator in there.

Re: Camping Lake Manatee
lake manatee is gonna be a bit more quiet. myakka is a very busy park this time of year. i like myakka cause i see more wildlife while camping and i dont hear the desoto speedway or drag strip while relaxing by the fire at night. fishing is good in both lakes and yes, watch out for the gators, especially at myakka.
Re: Camping Lake Manatee
lake manatee campground not so great. but fishing manatee is a lot better than myakka

Re: Camping Lake Manatee
yeah, its fun, just not always fun to go with certain people who make camping more work than it should be. last time we went a tropical storm came thru, it sucked. all the other trips were great, with and without kids.
