My very First Kill
So, I took my brother out hunting this week around Lake O. We went with a few friends and each came away with a kill.
To start off the morning I forgot my trigger lock key....busted the lock so we were good to go. My bro had his 30-30 and I my .270. I found his hog and he stalk shot it. I gutted his kill.
Next, we flushed a bunch of hogs from the brush with the buggie. I aimed and fired on a large sow. Unfortunately my first shot was a gut shot and I was so excited that I pulled back the bolt on my .270 and jammed it and could not load another shot.
My bro gave me his 30-30. The sow could not have presented me with a better shot..she just stood there and let me sight in my shot with the open sights (the scope malfunctioned). Placed a perfect heart/lung shot and she walked about 20 yards and dropped dead.
We gutted her, threw her on ice and quartered her. By 11pm that night I had her butchered and placed on ice over night to drain.
Yesterday I made and ate the best damned pork roast I have ever tasted.
Talk about the extreme satisfaction about providing for your family. Even my girls loved the roast.

Congrats! Sounds like y'all had a blast, but might need a little help with your weapons!

Re: My very First Kill
congrats, great start. a couple minor hiccups are just learning opportunities. it's been my exp that bolts eject and feed a new round better when done so harder and roughly then gently/slowly, no need to baby them or pussyfoot around. as soon as you fire a round re-chamber the next fast so by the time you recover from the recoil and regain sight picture a new round should be in place and waiting. with a little skill and practice a bolt can function ( realistically/accurately ) as fast as any other action, due to recoil recovery time, IMO.

Nice one, way to get it done. I always learn more from my mistakes than any success I have. From this point forward you will never forget a trigger lock key again I bet!

Nice going.
