new from NE Florida
I have posted a few things, but just wanted to introduce myself. I have only hunted a few times in my late teens early twenties. My Dad never hunted so I had to find friends that hunted. I hunted in Osceola a few times but never bagged anything. I was able to hook up with a friend and his Dad in Estill SC a few years later and had a great shot at an eight point. we looked but never did find him. Fast forward to a few months ago when my 13 year old son expressed an interest in hunting. Mom (wife is not a big fan) so it took a little while to convince her. I looked into hunt clubs but too expensive.I ended up finding a small property from Rayonier that fit the bill. It will be harvested soon but there is hardwood there as well. I spoke to some one that said a fresh clear cut is not ideal, however there is a good bit of hardwood there too. Anyway I look forward to a lot of hunting and a first deer for both me and my son.

its still a huntable place. oak hammocks will bring some around when the acorns are dropping. Also hunt the edges, the deer will walk around the edges.when it starts sprouting they will be in there, like davedirt said when it gets taller they will fell more secure in there, but in a tree stand you will be able to pick them out alot easier. Also with you being on private land a feeder or 2 in the hammocks wont hurt either. If there going to clear it soon by next season you will be ok and it will anly get better
Be polite, be professional, BUT have a plan to kill everybody you meet

Cutting is only one step of the timbering process. It's what happens afterwards that matters. If they cut it and just move onto other projects, you can be left with a mess. It may be crap you can't even walk across without breaking your leg
The sooner they get back on it after cutting and push piles, burn, harrow and replant the better.
Also try to find out if they are cutting all pines, third rowing, 5th rowing, or selective cutting. The latter three can make some of the finest hunting terrain there is
Also....
An edge along a hardwood treeline next to a clearcut are my top #1 place to hunt

From what Tracie at Rayonier said, they were clear cutting and leaving the hardwood. She did state that they plant in either the fall or spring. With that being said, it sounded like the harvesting would be soon and they would plant after that. This is all new to me so I will see. I am probably going up there this weekend to see if they have started or not. Tracie said they would contact me prior to harvesting, but I won't hold my breath they will.

If you have anything on the property that has the potential to grow legs, I suggest you remove it till the cutting is done. I had a camera disappear while they were cutting my old lease

Welcome! Those edges should produce. If they plant it this spring it will be even better. Good luck.
