Old guy wanting to get back in the woods

Post by daveh49 » Thu Sep 12, 2013 7:36 pm

Hi, I'm a 64 year old Vietnam vet, It's been a long time since I was last hunting, but I've got a gun, i'm gathering up the gear and I'm wanting to go. I'm in good shape for an old guy and I guess it's going to be a WMA. Turkey hunting is what I want to do but, I plan on scouting during general gun. Any help or ideas would be GREATLY appreciated.

Hey Dave, welcome to the forum and thanks for your service brother. I'm sure some folks on here are better qualified to let you know where to go than me. I hunt about 8hrs from here up in Laurel Hill and then about 3hrs up the road in Live Oak. Both are private property. I really don't like to hunt public property but a lot of folks on here do and can probably give you some good pointers.

I see your in Palm Bay. You wont have far to go at all to find your Turkeys sir. WMA Three lakes is a short ride. I would suggest to learn the quota system through Myfwc.com to try to get the early season hunts, start now and you may be able to figure it out by the time to put in for them, it can take some patience.
