backyard squirrel hunting?

Post by H60mech » Sun Jan 01, 2012 6:04 pm

Hey guys, just had a question, a friend of mine let me borrow his pellet gun this weeked, and I shot 2 squirrels in my back yard. I do have neigbors, but they all have fences, wooden ones. is it legal to hunt squirrel in a residential area?

Technically it isn't legal to hunt with an air rifle, not sure about the residential thing. I know someone that does it all the time when they come at his bird feeder.

You're not "hunting", you're doing pest control. And you won't be "eating" them, you'll be recycling!

Yes but the problem is that, as he said, it's illegal.

ok, found the link, it is illegal to hunt with air rifles, unless its in private property and your taking wild hog, furbearers, or non-native animals.

Squirrels are considered resident game mammals.

Resident game mammals are deer, gray squirrels and rabbits."..

its funny, FWC doesnt define air rifles in the prohibited weapons link, but where I found it was illegal was from a question that someone asked on the FWC website.

True. They only define legal weapons in the hunting regulations handbook. Probably listing what is illegal takes too much time and the possibility of leaving something out.

You could try your hand at blow guns or sling shot.
