Passed on a small spike around 8 or so in the morning and hit the rattle bag at about 9. waited a few minutes and had activity and this guy came in for a shot at 20 yards quartering to me. I came to full draw and my arm kept hitting the tether on my safety harness and that was giving me a hard time. Finally i found my anchor pount, settled in and I took the shot and he bolted. He disappeared from sight and I caught small glimpses of movement thru the trees as he was running, then I lost sight for good. I quickly texted my buddy and he said not to get down til he got there. I tried to relax, but with every passing moment I started to get a bit anxious of the shot. Then a turkey started acting kinda goofy in the area where the deer had gone, it was chirping at a strange cadence, I found him in my bino's but could not see much through the trees. The turkey was there for a minute or two and went silent. A few moments later I heard a deer blowing in that same area. This made me feel that the deer was dead, but until I got down I could not be sure. My buddy came by and I got down and started looking for blood. Once again like with the hog I shot last week I could not find any blood. I decided to go ahead and walk the path that the deer had taken after the shot and could still not find any blood. So I keep on in the direction I was sure that he had gone and saw that my buddy was walking up on the deer. At that moment my anxiety was gone and I was pumped! He is not a huge deer, but my first with a bow. 145lb 4 point. I told my wife that i was probably going to euromount this one and surprisingly she wants me to get a shoulder mount since it is my first archery deer. So I was happy with that. My buddy was wanting me to shoot the spike since I had not taken a deer with my bow yet. I was glad I didn't. Now i have meat in the freezer and some good memories.
