LFTT 9-19

Post by DONY1 » Thu Sep 19, 2013 5:36 pm

Made the 9 hr trip to the lease in 12 hrs flat. Checked out a few of my spots and opted to sit a climber on the edge of a fresh clearcut that butts up to a big peanut field. Lots of good sign heading to the field. Been quiet for the last hr. Bugs are driving me nuts but that's bow hunting.

Doe just got by me before I could get a shot. Left myself too small of a shooting lane.

Got busted by another doe right after the 1st one went by. Had a nice nanny doe come out behind me at 40 but couldn't get a shot. She fed around for the last 30 min before dark. Gonna sit the same stand in the morning and give it another go.

Good luck Doug. At least you're seeing deer. Hope you stick one.

Back on the same stand with a bright full moon. Trimmed a branch for a better lane behind me. Not much I can do for in front of me. With this moon I'm not sitting too late this morning. C'mon deer!

I killed my biggest bow buck a few years ago while in the stand and on this forum. I looked up and he was at 10 yards in the wide open. I had no choice but to move while he was staring at me. Put the phone in my vest pocket, clipped on release, drew and fired all while he is looking at me. He even took a few steps and cleared a bush in the way. I guess that's why he only lived to be a 2.5 year old instead of a 3.5 year old

Killed my buck last year doing the same thing, looked up and there he was just staring at the stand I was sitting in, something about being still reading with your face down, the deer can't see the whites of your eyes...haha.

Good luck this weekend. They are definitely up and moving over in Flagler, scrapes and rubs everywhere.

Deer can tell when your looking at their face. Like when you got the feeling someones looking at you and you turn your head or look up and yep theres someone staring at you.
