Crossbow Broadheads that will fly true ???

Post by OldCrab » Sun Sep 22, 2013 8:02 pm

My crossbow shoots 125 gr field points dead on from all yardages 2 inch groups at 50 yds
and much less at closer ranges -- I was knocking off fletching so I started shooting other mini bullseyes and was high fiving myself LOL -at how great this new to me bow shoots --
But my broad heads shoot -4 hi- 4 low- 6 left- etc. I have tried 4 different brands all 125 gr also 3 fixed and 1 mechanical and none want to shoot good groups whats the choice you guys have good results with

You have a tuning issue, not a broadhead issue. I would get it checked to see if your cams are in time. Mine will blow a BH right thru the bullseye

ALso, check your arrows for straightness. Anything out of true will send them planing off. But you should be able to shoot mechanicals. Having said that, I shoot Magnus buzzcuts in mine. They are the only BH company I know of that has a lifetime replacement warranty. I have 3 I am getting ready to send back as I have blown them all thru animals and into rocky dirt. Will get 3 brand new ones in the mail in a few days

but it shoots field point perfectly from all ranges -- I would think if it was outta tune the would be all over the place also

muzzy 100g 3 blade. Also how old is the string? how many shots on the string? Had same issue, perfect with field points but BHs would be low, hi, left and right. Done a pull test and had lost a lot of power and was pushing the arrows inconcisiantly. Had a new string put and and back in the money.xbow strings can only take so much and start streaching . also make sure the head and limbs are tight

Any bow tune issue is magnified with broadheads. But the heads need to be tuned to the arrow as well to have perfect flight. Flip the arrow over and set the tip of the head on your finger and spin it,They make a jig to spin test but this will work.If you have a wobble it is sure to fly crazy. And the faster the bow the worse it is. I spend time each year trying each fixed head on different arrows until I get them to spin smooth. Its a pain but when I do they fly like darts perfect out to 60 yards.

My 250fps cheapo throws muzzy 125 3 blades just as good as field points, but the 375fps Barnett needs mechanicals.

I've been told the faster the crossbow the harder it is to tune fixed blades to fly straight with them.

I used a 100g 2 blade rage to take my deer with last week with my Barnett predator at 375 fps and it flew fine. It will be the last time I use rage so Im gonna see how my muzzys do

If the rage flew fine why are you going to try muzzys?

I have been shooting bows for over 40 years and now a crossbow due to shoulder surgery the broadhead that I have found the that fly identical or as close as possible to my field points is Schwacker. My crossbow is a 175 pounder pull and 133 foot-pounds (also a predator) and they fly as good as my field points. Good luck this year!

many broadheads will fly fine, Its the other end of the flight path that concerns me the most. The rage only deployed 1 blade and it was torn off. Had to trail that deer a long way. The muzzys are fixed blade with a bone busting tip. Looks like a shotgun slug hole went thru. And have always had 100% pass thru with none going out of site before going down. That's why I went back to the muzzies

I use NAP spitfire 125. I also use a small o ring on the blade. I say they wallop what they hit and blast a hole you can see from the stand.
