Scallop Charter?

Post by markori1 » Wed Jun 27, 2012 9:55 am

I have never been scalloping before. Do y'all know of a good, honest charter captain to take a couple people scalloping?

by me in N.Y. they would primarily drag for them from sailboats ( guess that's not considered commercial). for clams non commercial we would put a basket in an inner tube and feel for them with your feet or use a 5-6' handled clam rake with a basket and teeth to get them. for commercial clammers they would use long handled rakes with big baskets or scissor type handles and a lot of back/shoulder muscles.

There were deep this weekend and the water is dusty. We got abt 3gals between 8 of us over. Most were found in 8-10' of water and you have to drive and search for them only abt 15 or so were actually seen from the surface. It was terrible for the two first timers. I would wait a couple weeks to charter!
I like animals, they are tasty!

When we are looking for new lobster spots down here we pull a couple guys behind the boat with sea sleds. http://underwaterflorida.homestead.com/seasled.html We usually make our own but it makes locating them much easier. Might help you guys when looking in deeper water.

You got your wife's friend out with you. LOL
