Black Drum Baby

Took the kids and wife out on a morning off this am. We went out on the 4th and I just have to come back for more. The past week I put my homemade regular jigs and homemade doc's goofy type jigs to the test.

They catch fish. Fighting big ole black drum is just plain fun. Cathing them on lures and flies you made 100%... thats cool... Seeing your wife and daughter catch their first ones.... That even better. My daughter fought that fish for about 20 minutes. My wife did the same. The hooting and holllering when one person had a fish on was great.

I always worry taking the family out. Kids have short attention spans. Today and on the 4th.... after seeing that first black drum .... everything .. even rocks ... were DAD I HAVE A DRUM ON! Good stuff.

Even me, the old man got in on the action. It was HOT out there, the action was on and then suddenly off. But the few we caught made each morning. Good stuff.

Black drum are a blast to catch. I prefer eating the reds. here is an old recipe/joke my grampa used to tell people about black drum. Hey man ya know the best way to cook those is to clean em, put butter lemons and onion on em and put em on a nice board and put it in the oven.....when the fish is done throw it out and eat the board. Dont know why grampa didnt like black drum, i have eaten them and theyy r just fine.

Your Grandpa might be right about the black drum at least the bigger ones. The BIG ones are filled with worms. i found that about a couple of years ago. I brought home a 25 pounder and was pretty grossed out. I have seen that in trout before but the amount in that big drum was pretty gross. The smaller ones are just fine though.
