Pretty day at Picnic

Post by Iluv2hunt » Sun Feb 16, 2014 2:46 pm

Had plans today to head out mid morning and fish the slow incoming. My son got up and is rotten with a cold. We decided it was better not to drag him out in it. SO I unhooked the skiff, grabbed my waders and out the door. Got a couple dozen skrimps at the bait shop and headed over to Picnic Island. I was greeted with some very inconsiderate dog owners out there. Their dogs were running all over the place and jumping on everybody. One of them actually got in a dude's kayak. I told the lady that my waders probably cost more than her dog did, and it would be in her best interest to get some control over him and not let him jump on me and rip them...She just looked at me like I was from Mars.

Waded there for about 30 minutes and no bites at all. I had glanced over at the small boat ramp and had seen a boat backed down for quite a while trying to launch, at least 20 minutes. On my way back to the truck, I walked over that way, hoping to get a good laugh. I was rewarded. One dude in the truck, his buddy in the water up to his nips trying to push the boat off.
he looks at me and says "you look like a fisherman, what am I doing wrong?"
Me: "you trying to launch or load?"
"Launch"
Me: "You might have better luck if you took the strap off the boat first"
Instead of his buddy pulling the trailer up some, he swam out to it and unhooked the strap. When he did the boat just floated off, which he had to go chase down.
I laughed all the way to the truck, drove down the park a ways and went wading again. This time I found a few fish.
Ended up with a couple keeper trout, a really good mackerel, some short trout, a pile of lady fish and a pompano.
No pics, but a great morning to get out of the house

Funny for sure.. You ever had any problems with people coming around looking in your truck? I hear there a lot of break in's happen, but not sure if it's just hearsay. I''ve been out there 2-3 times and never had any problem. Just wondering.

I've been to PI many times over the years and never had any trouble, with the family and fishing.

I worry more about parking on Gandy at the little dirt ramp. Different class of people over there, IMHO

I was down there the other day working. I went over to the beach off Gandy to fish a few minutes to kill time. This dude pulled up and got like 10 apple pies out of the back of his truck and threw them out to the seagulls. Weird stuff....
