Illinois hunt

Post by gl » Thu Nov 10, 2011 2:20 am

I fly to Illinois on Monday to hunt for six days. This is my first time to Ill. and I am told early November is the time to go. I will be hunting archery for a couple days and then the first gun season. My only hunting experience has been in Florida and South Carolina so I am ready to go see new places. Anybody have any tips on hunting this part of the country.

Read the hunting regulations untill you almost memorize them. Midwest states have very different regulations when you are used to florida regulations. Also bring plenty of warm weather clothes. Went to wisconsin last year the last week of oct. and first week of nov. Temps in the high 60's first day or two then dropped to the teens the rest of the time. Good thing I bring too much stuff on a huntin trip, or I would been have been in the cabin twiddlin my thumbs.

Don't crap your pants if a huge buck comes out!
Size up the deer if you can. What may seem like a large buck/whatever to you may be considered a small deer up there. Then again, sometimes you just have to pop the first thing that comes by because weather may change and you not see anything from there on out. If it looks nice to you, nail it. Deer that is!!!!

Invest in some Merino wool socks. They are worth their weight in gold

I just got back from my trip to Illinois. Had an awesome time. Saw a few good bucks, a ten several 8s and a 4point. Also saw some does. I shot a real nice 8 point, the biggest deer I have shot yet both in horns and size. The thing weighed well over 200 pounds. I scored the deer at 149 (I think I scored it right.)

On the ride there we were talking about deer hunting the whole time. We got to the farm at around 2300 hours and when I looked outside off of his porch I see several does and the biggest buck I had ever seen. It was funny, I had been there 2 minutes and already seen a monster.

Ill work on posting a pic later.
