Deer tail

Post by Cr0ck1 » Sun Dec 02, 2012 7:07 pm

So i took my does tail , cut the bone out and let it sit covered in borax for 10 days. It looks good but it smells like fish when you put your nose up to it. Any idea why?

Well, what's it supposed to smell like? Maybe you can spray some Febreeze on it. Or just vinegar and water...

thats what I thought too... maybe without the infection, never really smelt that before

Better question is, why are you smelling deer tails?

maybe you missed some flesh somewhere, or could be the skin itself? a taxidermist should know. a bud of mine would stop and grab the tails from road kill for tying flies. the colors are perfect and the hairs float. you plan on using it for flies or a fashion statement? I'll stick up for you buddy, C DOES NOT sniff dead deer tails! live ones are another story.

Fill it with salt and let it sit another week or two
