Went a little different then most people do. In the down time before next weekend I got the wings done and everything together. Still need to bring the tail out to the same distance as the wings to catch the light. The neck skin I'll reshape to hang the beard down.Turkey skin wall hanger

That's pretty cool! How do you treat the skin to preserve it? Treefarmer

Nice! Are you going to mount it on a board, plague or piece of timber?

That is awesome. I would love to hear some tips on how to preserve that.

borax powder
Be polite, be professional, BUT have a plan to kill everybody you meet
Re: Turkey skin wall hanger
I skinned it, spread it flat (separated the wings and put aside) and cut off anything I thought I didn't need. Picked all the fat and meat off the body and tail that I could. I picked out everything I could between the tail quills. I worked borax all over with my fingers using it as an abrasive and it absorbed more of the fine fat, and discarded that borax. I had seen that I can clean the feathers with paint thinner, rubbing alcohol or dish detergent, but the bird was at this point pretty clean. I laid it flat feathers down in the right shape and put a nice layer of borax over it, rubbing it between the tail quills and such. The wings (from elbow down) also got picked clean of fat and meat. I could have removed the two long bones but wanted the support in the finished product. I stretched the wings out to shape and put weighted items here and there to hold the shape. Packed borax all over any skin or bone areas on the wings. After drying more then a month in the back room (checked a few times and touched up the borax) I wired it to a 18"x18" thin board adjusted it and up it went. I have never done a bird and improvised from internet info.

Thanks for the lesson. Now I need a victim.

It went pretty easily, use lots of borax.

I really love these shows off your trophy but does not take the space as say a full body mount.
