Anyone does trapping

Post by ShotshellRebel83 » Thu Feb 13, 2014 10:18 am

Hey guys I am a new member on this forum and wanted to know if there is anyone that traps in Fl. Wanted some general info on where to trap and general tactics. Mostly interested in coons, muskrats, and eventually work my way up to yotes.
Thanks guys

Are you wanting to trap for the meat/pelts, etc? NOt sure how widespread muskrats are. Can't say I have officially ever seen one. Coons are everywhere.
You could become a nuisance trapper with the FWC. There is no license needed anymore, and you can register yourself with them here

I have been reading about it. I want to do some predator control and help the fawn and turkey population around me.

I hear ya on that, I thought that I'de do a little trapping one year. I spent the time to get everything set up just right and never caught a coyote. But I did catch 2 Bobcats though. I caught one in a snare and one in a live trap. I found out then that a bobcat cost way more to mount than a deer does.

been thinking about doing some trapping myself, i would definitely skin the animals for pelts. otter, bobcat, coyote, coon, and deer hide makes great leather. great way to remember something without paying a taxidermist. i would like to take some smaller critters to work on tanning the leather, and pelts. i know that you can trap in richloam, and the otters are thick along the withlacoochee.

I think you need a furbearer's license in order to trap on public land. Not positive though and haven't had time to research it

you do need the trappers license on public land. it is 26.50......and you need it to even have more than a certain number of different furs.
