Good luck willing, I think I would like to try skinning one this hunting season for wall hanging. Any pointers other than be careful?

Good deal C. I have said for years I am gonna skin one to tan myself, then get in a hurry and cut holes in it. I want one unique though. every once in a while you get one with a black stripe down the spine or something different
One during bow season while they are still red would be cool

You know you can trim the sides so it looks like the margines are even on the white hair. You could get another one and make a poncho............Or a cool jacket. I mite get one tanned myself. Looks good.

I might get to hunt up in South Carolina this year on a lease that has piebald deer. If I were to get one of those I'd want the hide tanned for sure.

Thanks all. Yea dave I was thinking bout trimming it.

Only advice I can give is the same advice given to me.. do not care how long it takes to skin it. Take 5 hours if its gonna guarantee a good hide. Also what I've learned is, clean it good, get all blood off, hang it to dry a little, THEN roll tight and stick it in thick garbage bag and put in deep freezer until davet has time to get it!

Hey Crock....glad your happy with it....looks nice there.......yeah...the more time you take, the better they look....the more you skin out, the better you get and the faster it goes....but always clean it good and bag it up and it will usually be fine....you could trim some of the one side if you wanted to.....but it looks fine...
