Texas Javelina

Post by DaveT » Fri Mar 27, 2009 6:53 am

Here's a Javelina I shot with my bow in South Texas a while back....I didnt mount it....it was done by the guy who taught me and he really is good....only does deer now and very few of them since he is kind of easing into retirement. When I shot this guy....I was deer hunting on a feeder, which is legal in Texas, and when the Javelinas come up they pretty much run everything else out, mean as hell, and then lay down in the bush by the feeder and pretty much your deer hunting is over there until they decide to leave. This was the biggest boar in the pack so since I always wanted one on the wall I decided to bust him....got so excited I forgot all about looking through my peep, took aim, and placed the first arrow about a foot from him with a 20 yard shot. He jumped a little bit at the noise but settled down and after realizing what I did, I nocked up another arrow and put one right through his heart...stuck in the ground on the other side...he ran around PO'd for about 30 seconds looking for something to tear up and then fell over dead...and now I have coffee with him every morning....mean little suckers....

I'd be doing them right now cept I know two guys that used to do them and it damn near killed one of them and the other guy was in a long recovery...both from brucellosis from taxidermy on hogs....one guy had to give up working....never recovered very well....and actually I am staying pretty busy doing the deer...I/ll be posting some more pics as they get finished up....doing a euro mount on one that I think will be real pretty....put it up here when its done ....but thanks....and go ahead and shoot a buck ....you dont have to let them all walk by...
