Today was AWFUL

Post by sparkfly88 » Sun May 01, 2011 5:48 pm

So...today's events were planned to go fishing out at M3 since a couple weekends ago we had such good luck out there.

We are on our way to the docks, trailer tires blows out.
We gimp it to my old work
got to docks fine after that.
on our way out in the sarasota bay....insanely wavy.
but SO much bait.
so it went smooth we caught all sorts of bait and lots of it
Lovebug season, oh how I hate thee. :2guns
the entire time we are anything below 10 mph the bastages are ALL over us
so..
we dealt with the swarms...got bait..and headed out into the gulf.
i swear the swells were 8' out there.
i dunno if they were or not...but it wasnt the best fun
we get out to our spot..
anchor out.
my first cast i got somethin big.
same with my dad.
both at the same time
ended up being two sharks.
i get out my cz82 to dispatch them
i told my dad i was preparing to fire, when I fired, my dad flinched and so did the fish, causing him to drop his rod HE JUST BOUGHT into the water, and I got to watch the pole get dragged into the depths of M-7.
Couple minutes later, im watching my breakfast disperse into the water... :wacko
He grabbed his "backup" rod, which is what I used when I was little to drag grouper off the bottom of 100' of water when I was little. Casts out again, another shark, too small.
Then another...

So we decide to move...I had the exciting part of pulling in 150' of anchor line...while weak from saying goodbye to breakfast....Get the anchor up and go to get our buoy we threw out.

Engine dies out.....turns over, no fire.

My reaction was to make sure my cell had service, so I go into the cab, and there is WATER on the floor.
So he opens the engine compartment to find half the engine is underwater....and a leak the size of a quarter formed from his silicone not sealing the hole of our sonar wire good enough.

So I worked on sealing the hole, as he bailed. All the while of getting swarmed by lovebugs...
In a stress full situation, dealing with annoying gnats all over you just makes EVERYTHING WORSE!

Engine fired up after we had ridden ourselves of the water...

We headed back, defeated...on the way, I emptied my innards two more times... :pinch

What a day :fish

Whats that they say about a bad day fishing is better than a good day at work. Sometimes it makes you wonder...

Is it me or does it always seem to be that way. A strong wind in the spring and then it dies down only to be replaced by almost unbearable heat after 10:00 in the morning. I like to stay out from sun rise to sun down but the 4 to 5 hours in the middle of the day are a killer.
