snapper fishing

Post by CitySlicker » Sun Jun 19, 2011 11:54 am

We headed out Saturday at 9:00pm for an all niter. Ended up watching the sun rise to the east as we returned from our red snapper excursion. Unfortunately we were unable to boat a single red snapper. 2 years ago in July with the same crew we were able to catch a limit of mangos, 4 red snapper, and a 42in 28lb cobia. So we returned to the same # 25 miles west of Johns pass. This time there were no reds, but we did manage a limit of mangos up to 5 lbs, and I boated a 42in 28lb cobia. I am really loving the 3# we found 2 years ago. We also had to throw back a really nice 30 in gag. Might try again if the wife doesn't kill me first.
The haul.

Sweet job on the mango's and cobia. :toast
Some people are like Slinkies ... not really good for anything, but you can't help smiling when you see one tumble down the stairs.

Nice cobe, we had the opposite, limit of 18 to 20lb red snaps in an hour, and only a few mangroves.

Thanks! I see you had a good trip this weekend also. congrats! I gotta tell you I am frying up some cobia as we speak. I think you would be lucky to find a fish in the gulf that tastes any better. They are down right delicious.

Cut into steaks and put on the grill is another awesome way to cook em'! Nice catch.
