PROGRESS!!!!!!
BPS came over this weekend and we were able to get some more work done.
ramrod pipes fitted, barrel tabs and sight moved and pinned, barrel polished, lock polished, final shaping and most of the sanding done.
Now it's ready to touch up the areas around the carving, whisker a few times, stain, blend in the glaring inletting repair in the lock inlet and begin the patience straining process of rubbing in an oil finish.

Actually this one is a college graduation gift for a friend of mine in Indiana...
I have a few more in the hopper though. And I know Supercracker has a some lined up ready to get started on so I think we'll be busy for a while.

Re: French Fowler Build
Well, we can see the light at the end of the tunnel....
The metalwork is all pretty much finished. Last week Supercracker and I finished getting everything fitted and I drilled the touchhole. We disassembled everything and I brought the stock home for final finishing...
I hit it with 100 grit, 120, 220, 320, 400, and 600 sandpaper and then stained it with some Laurel Mountain stain. Here's what it looked like after 1 coat...
After another coat I began applying sealer. It took several coats of sealer before she started to tell me she was getting full. I let her sit overnight and then began hand rubbing in the finisher. Here's the first coat drying....
I'm not sure how many more coats before it's all good but I figure by the end of the week we'll be THROUGH!!!

Like a piece of art. Its easy to see the passion you have for your hobby. Looks like your mug is empty, time for a refill to celebrate the job well done.

Re: French Fowler Build
I've always wanted to do a left hander kit for myself, but there is a lot of work on these things I have no clue about.
VERY nice work

Re: French Fowler Build
Well, it is a lot of work and the best advice I can give is to REALLY do your research on the "KITS"....most are not the cheap stain and bolt together kits that Traditions and the like sell. Some are way better quality than others, component wise. But the end result is pretty damn cool!!

Re: French Fowler Build
Thanks guys!
I delivered it to my friend this weekend.
It is darn accurate for a smoothbore. I was probably happier than he was, LOL! Here's a video of him pumpkin slaying!
