I quit drinking.....

Post by blackpowderscout » Mon Dec 31, 2012 6:56 pm

So I had to find something to keep me busy in the evenings. I picked a side of leather and made up a couple cow's knees and ball bags. I'll be making more when I get some more necks.

quit drinking was one of the best things I ever did. Many years of hard drinking. Thought there was no way I could do but. After the first few days it wasnt to bad and has never really bothered me since. Its been about 16yrs now and cant really stand the smell of beer anymore. I have tried to have a beer but could not get it down. you will be fine and having a hobby will really help :rockon Now smoking and my copenhagen is another story altogeather.

Just curious, do you sell this stuff? I have a co-worker whose husband is into the re-enactments and traditional stuff. He might be interested if I passed this on. Just wondering.....

I can if anyone's interested. I'll never make much off any of it but if somebody wants to cover the cost of material, I can make some. But it'll be a little while before I can get anymore done. Uncle Sam is sending me to a school for a while and I'm not sure how much time I'll have....

I'm currently out of the spouts and I'm looking for more....(if anyone wants to get rid of some antler, please let me know).

I generally try to copy examples of originals found in some books, but I use oil tanned leather and in this case artificial sinew. I can do more traditional thread though, it's just that I have lots of sinew I need to use up. I learned everything I know about this stuff when I used to volunteer as an interpreter in the Colonial Spanish Quarter in St. Augustine, so I understand how anal some of us re-enactors can be...LOL!

If you want to make me a sheath for a skinning knife I have, I would be interested..It's a Dexter-russell 6" skinner. It came with a little plastic sleeve and that's it. It is just a matter of time before I cut myself with it. Don't need anything fancy, just a sheath to put it in and the knife stays in my tuck. I could trace you an outline of the knife and mail it to you

Some more from this afternoon...

Another ball bag. Actually it's the neck from that cloth one above. I just didn't like that one very much.
