late xmas present
It finally got here ( back ordered). we've been wanting a black powder sidearm, and figured xmas was a good enough reason.

Re: late xmas present
if you're thinking of using the b/p revolver for hunting during b/p season, be sure to double check the regs, as they are not considered a single shot weapon. also use some breech plug grease on the cylinder wedge as that can get stuck real good after firing. have fun they will shoot suprizingly well.

Re: late xmas present
love it..
i have the the same one along with the short barreled version.
they are a freaking blast and surprisingly accurate!
I don't have a ton of rounds through mine but here is my setup that works good so far:
paradox 30 grain revolver pellets
.454 swagged balls
cabelas pre lubed wad between powder/ball to prevent chain fire
remington #10 caps

Cool!!!
Here's my babies, Colt Dragoon .44 cal, 50gr 3F black powder under a .457 rb deadly at 50 yrds, plus it makes a big boom.
Other is a 1851 Colt Navy 22gr 3F under a .36 cal ball. very accurate, Might be the best pointing revolver I own.

Re: late xmas present
Nice revolvers guys! I researched a lot before deciding which model. I wanted an easy breakdown, staying away from the ones with the wedge. Took a bit to find #10 caps locally, but I got them.
I'll finally have time this weekend to try it out.

Re: late xmas present
this is going back aways, but you used to be able to get diff aftermarket nipples that took larger/hotter (musket caps?). one thing to watch out for is spent/broken primer caps falling into and jamming up the cylinder rotation. there was a shooting style back in the day where the shooter would point the gun straight up while cocking the hammer, this wasn't originaly for dramatic affect, but to let the primers (if broken or fallen off) fall away from the action. I used to own a rem old army that was a kit build with the wedge and a ruger 44 cap and ball. in stainless it didn't have the look and feel of the rem but it's one I regret ever selling. have fun with that.
