muzzleloader scope?
Ok so we took the plunge and bought a modern to us .50 cal thunderhawk by T/C and am now looking to scope it. So what type of scope can I use? Do I have to treat this like a shotgun scope with super shock resistance or will a standard rifle scope work? This modern stuff is so cunfusing to me!!

Re: muzzleloader scope?
a muzzleloader or shotgun specific scope would be what you want.
I have a cabelas 3-9x40 blackpowder scope on my traditions .50
even the 2-7x32 is plenty big enough size
pick out a budget and buy anything from top manufactures and you'll be fine.. the one i have is china built, but was on clearance at the time so i couldn't pass it up.. if it fails it gets replaced lifetime warranty

Re: muzzleloader scope?
Been using regular rifle scopes on my M/L's for around 30 years. Have not had any issues with any of them. First I borrowed a low power Redfield that already had issues and then replaced it with a 3X Tasco and had it on quite a few different rifles. Been using a 3X9 Redfield on a Knight rifle for last few years. The Redfield was on a Remington 700 M/L for several years before the Knight rifle. These are my experiences and I feel that if the glass will hold up to an '06 it will certainly stand up to a muzzle loader charge. Some black powder scopes have built-in range finders, a fancy way of getting your "Kentucky windage" for the long shot that may present itself. A lot of choices out there and a little unbiased research/opinion will shed a lot of light on the true facts. Treefarmer

Re: muzzleloader scope?
Any regular rifle scope (not rimfire) will work just fine. I don't feel as much recoil in my inline as I do my '06.

thats cuz you are usually pretty toasted by the time you pull the trigger JBUG!! admit it!
Re: muzzleloader scope?
on a different note does anyone know if muzzleloaders are legal on public land during small game? Regulations don't say but Ive seen guys out there with inlines and sidelocks but I wanna make sure.

Re: muzzleloader scope?
I think most places simply state that hunting then with centerfire rifles is prohibited so therefore yes muzzleloaders are allowed......however doublecheck for each place you intend to go just to mke sure.
