Buying blackpowder

Post by blackpowderscout » Tue Apr 30, 2013 5:46 pm

Well, with all the hysteria lately I decided I needed to renew my stash of blackpowder. I haven't had much luck finding any local over the years and the few places I did find were too far for me to be even worth the drive, and besides they only sell a couple pounds at a time...so I searched around online and holy cow it's CRAZY in the world of BP!! It's been a while since I had to buy any it seems.

Anyhow, finding somebody that ships less than 25 cans at a time is difficult. I wasn't about to drop over $600 on 25 cans. I found a company that'll ship 5,10,25, and 50 cans. Great I thought!

Well....GOEX is pretty much a no go in the granulations I want. Backordered out the ying-yang.
Swiss? HAH! Not at $30 a can!!!

So there's KIK....I've heard about it over the years. Mostly good in fact but it's made in Slovakia or some far off land and I'd always been a buy American guy. But, I NEED powder. So I figured it up and I got 10 lbs (8 cans of 2f and 3 4f) for $171!!!

Hopefully it's as good as what I've read. It's certainly far cheaper than SWISS and GOEX and more readily available to boot.

If we ever get a chance to meet, I have 2 cans I will give you. It's old, but has been kept in original cans in a/c so it should be fine?

Should be. I've got some from dad's stash from the 80's that still shoots. I appreciate it.

It'll probably be a while since 8lbs of 2f will last me a looong time.

http://www.powderinc.com/ will ship 5 lb lots. They are cheaper than what I've found in stores here in FL that have/had any. That might be a good route for you.

Or maybe somebody else on here will see this and want to go in with you. It's significantly cheaper the more you order so if ya'll do a group buy of like 25 cans it'll be waaaay cheaper than anywhere you'd find it around here.

DO NOT use that in a muzzleloader!!

Can't comment on whether thats a good deal or not otherwise.

You took it the wrong way. I should have put a smiley on it I guess....calm down.

That's not blackpowder. It's smokeless. Big difference and they aren't interchangeable for the purposes of muzzleloading.

My comment was geared more towards someone who may be following this thread and not know, and then see your link and think it would be a great idea to use it for muzzleloading.

You cool now?

Got my 10lbs of KIK powder today via UPS. They dropped it right off at the front door and went on their way.

Not too shabby. 7 days and it's right to my door. $12.50 per can. I'm pleased with http://www.powderinc.com/ overall. If you are in the market for powder, give them a look.

Guys, at that price (compared to GOEX), I'm sure hoping my guns all like it.

The 4f looks significantly finer than GOEX. The 2f looks like 2f. I just need to get time to hit the range now.

Damn! These are real good folks who are well liked and well thought of in the BP community. I hope the son comes out ok! What a shame.
