Shiners

Post by Iluv2hunt » Sat Jun 21, 2014 9:40 am

If I get a couple dozen shiners (now), and put them in a 5 gal bucket inside the house where it's cool, with a small aquarium pump and air stone going...will they be ok till tomorrow morning?
I won't have time to get them this afternoon, and will be heading out before the store opens tomorrow.

Yeah they will be fine as long as you keep the stone on and the water cool.

What I do when I buy them at the bait store is add ice to the water. Believe it or not they dont die and it keeps them alive a lot longer than in that hot water.

Well the 5 gallon bucket worked like a champ. I changed about 1/2 the water before I went to bed last night. This morning they were as lively as could be. No dead ones.
Too bad the fishing sucked. Fished from first light till 9:30 and never had a bite. Zip. Zero. Called it a day. At least the leftovers will now be cut bait when I go offshore Tuesday

Geezz 9:30 and you called it quits... and you're taking a day off before going offshore? Slacker! :taz

Yeah, when I fish for 3 hours and don't get the first bite, I know I am skunked.

I always add ice to the water in the shrimp bucket when I get bait. Especially during the summer when the water gets hot. If you can keep the water in the mid 70's, they'll stay alive for a long time...
