#1 rule of survival is admit when you are lost. #2 is stay put.

Prepare to spend the night way before sundown.

I hope we get to hear how this guy in Big Cypress made it X number of days in the swamp.

Good info right there. Thought about those for hunting/boating...

Hopefully he hasn't gotten injured or snakebit. What's the chances he could find enough dry stuff to burn where he is at? A fire at night out there would stand out like a roach on a wedding cake. A helicopter with IR would help, too. Back in the early 90's when thermal imaging was still pretty new, our USAF Special Ops helicopters were often called on to help locate lost folks out on Eglin Reservation or flush out some criminal running from the law.

Petroleum jelly on cotton balls. Keep them in a film canister in your pack. Can pretty much light anything on fire...

I went and spent the money on a Garmin 530 Hcx which is doing me no good right now cause my buddys won't spend the money. If someone else has 1 and is programmed then they can find me on their GPS as long as mine is on. Always liked the idea of someone being able to find me just in case but right now it is a glorified GPS/ radio.
