I grab a couple bottles of water out of the cooler and put them in my back pack

I start out on a hike with a 3L Camelback. If I run out I have a Sawyer .1 microm filter with a nalgene bottle. Here we usually don't have much to worry about with chemical contaminates. This thing will stop any swimmers that happen to be there

Filtering your water?
I know this is an old topic so I was wondering what everyone used now? I have a steripen and pre filter for it
Re: Filtering your water?
Everytime we send missionaries into the jungles of Peru or to Northern Kenya we send them with these:Pochop7 wrote:I know this is an old topic so I was wondering what everyone used now? I have a steripen and pre filter for it
You can purchase them here: http://www.sawyer.com/water.html
We normally leave the big filter with the folks we go to minister to and the small personal waterbottle filter stays with the missionary. We haven't had any cases of dysentery since switching to these filters. The guy who manufacturers them used to attend our church. The factory is in Tampa.

Re: Filtering your water?
Those newer units are great but in case it breaks or lost the best alternative to filtering any water is to run it through a shirt or a bandanna and then boil. Boiling is the best way to purify water. After the water is boiled strain it back through another clean cloth. Much slower but is a sure fire way of drinking clean water.
Re: Filtering your water?
I was looking for a larger unit to have at our camp.
I ended up ordering a Berkey filter system.
It will filter about 2 gallon per hour.
I plan on catching rain water in barrel and filtering it.
Another filter system I'm planning to build in future is a combination sand and activated charcoal system using 3 separate 5 gal buckets to filter rain water for showers and basic washing.
