First attempt at making a survival bracelet

Post by Iluv2hunt » Sun May 15, 2011 1:04 pm

I figured this couldn't be rocket surgery to tie these things, and its not

First one. I think it came out pretty good.

Lots of different ways to make these things. Key chains, lanyards for whatever, zipper pulls, etc.

looks good. is it really for survival, to have a bunch of line at ready and if so how many feet are there? or is it just for decoration. it does a good job of covering your watch tan line, can you make a small one to cover the wedding ring tan line?

They are more of a fad than anything else. However, they are a cool way of storing 550 para cord. The knot stores approx 1 foot of para cord per 1" of knot. So that bracelet there has approx 8' of cord in it. If you ever forgot a drag rope or something it would be nice to have

Here is a key chain I threw together. Not para cord, but just some camo cord. Thats approx 10'of cord right there

I like to wear a knife in a sheath around my neck while in a tree stand. Gonna make a neck lanyard out of this stuff when I order some more para cord.

I thought about trying my hand at making a knife. Thought about wrapping the handle outta para cord, but I'm not sure cause I'm thinking how the grip would feel. I have a knife with a thin handle and, while it suits its purpose, it doesn't grip well in my hand. Nothing like my other knifes with a thicker handle. What do you think? You ever handle a knife with a para cord handle?

I have a machete with a paracord wrapped handle and after some abuse the cord does move around and has to be readjusted. It does help with padding the blows though. Perhaps a knife wouldn't be so bad, not as much abuse but could become a mess if it gets bloody.

You're right! I didn't even think about the blood. I might rethink using para cord for a handle.

Made my dog a collar today. He's so dang little and blends in, I let him out and can't ever find him. I wanted a floro orange collar for a while, but haven't been able to locate one small enough, other than the wally world junk, and they are not orange

I found some floro orange cord, and I had a spool of camo cord. I used the buckles and the ring on a collar he had from when he was a puppy

Took me about an hour and a half to tie it up. It looks good on him, he likes it, and I can actually see him in the yard now!

Can that technique be doubled in width for a rifle sling? Or would you just use a thicker cord?

Yes, you absolutely can. However you need 2X the length of the cord. All you do is when you get done, you run the stitch back the other way on top of the first stitch
A single cobra stitch uses approx 1' of cord per 1". So to do one for a rifle sling, king cobra stitched(estimating 25") you will need 50' feet of cord

Definitely doable, would take about a 12 pack to tie it

I actually did one for my X-bow. Doesn't look that good but its sufficient. I just used some cheap camo cord from Wal mart

I may get some good para cord from the Mil-surplus shop and make one for my AR one rainy day
