Hog trap door design recommendation needed...
We are going to build a door for pig trap either tomorrow or on wednesday and I need some recommendation from you guys about which is better.
We decided to use door hinge type of trap door that you can push forward and opens up but cannot be pulled back.
But my concern is, what if pigs think suspicious and don't go through that door even though I spread corns near the door and inside the trap to lure them in? Did anyone had problems like this?
Thank you very much

I know it's hard to tell from this pic,, but, it's the only pic I have.. I used a one way swing door hinged at the top and used a stick to prop it up.. when a hog goes in he bumps the stick or rubs the door with his back and then it closes down behind him.. best was 3 at one time (twice) but have caught other singles as well

I think the best designs are like Just 1 More mentioned - the first pig doesn't have to open the door, just trip it shut. Once he's in there, others are more likely to push open the door and get in with him, wanting to see what so great that Porky went in and shut the door behind him! Curiosity is one of the best tools to use when doing any kind of trapping. Practically all animals are curious to some degree, and if they think one of their own is getting something good that they aren't getting, they'll do what they can to get in on it!

You can do them one of 2 ways..
You cna do a continuous catch door, like pictured in this Craigslist add. A buddy of mine builds them. Matter of fact, I think he built this one and someone else is selling it now

Or you can do a guillotine door. It drops straight down

I haven't used one, but I like the 3-panel hinged drop door. Door/gate swings down to close after the hog(s) trip it, but smaller/bigger hogs can get in, but not out, by pushing 1, 2, or even all 3 panels on the gate/door. As long as the opening in the bottom of the gate is closed off to prevent the critters from pushing the gate out/open, it should keep catchin till it's full.

Thank you guys and I have one question about door size.
How tall and how wide should I make it?
I was thinking either 3-4ft tall and 2.5ft wide or 3ft wide
But how tall and how wide would you recommend?
