Game hens?

Post by Iluv2hunt » Thu Oct 11, 2012 8:34 am

Anyone ever raise them?
I have a pretty big open air shed in the back that was used as a boat shed. Thinking about enclosing it and making it a pen to raise game hens in. Thinking about the Cornish x hens

Any tips on the feeding schedule? I have read so much it seems overwhelming. Seems there is a pretty strict schedule and amount they need to be fed. And what to feed?

I have 6 that we keep in with the regular chickens. I feed them the chicken feed and scratch grain that the chickens eat. They seem to do fine.

Well now, lets see what are you wantingto raise them for is the question? To just have some chickens? you would be better to have laying hens. Now if you want to raise them to carry around to all of these game hen shows (Yeah a chicken shows) then you might have your work cut out for ya. Those show hens need a lot of preping like giving them a bath and clipping everything. But I will tell you this much you carry a bunch of Game hens to a show and you haven't ever the likes of "Hens cackling".

Well heck then, you have it made get you some layers and an automatic feeder and let eat and drink as they please. Then you can eat eggs and fried chicken when you please. Start with about a dozen or so.

I already have layin hens that are my pets. Im talkin about raising cornish x game hens to slaughter and put in the freezer. They have to be put on a strict feeding regime so they dont have heart attacks and break their legs from rapid weight gain. Sorta like me carlos and Nacho at a buffet.

I told you I raised 30 of them. Best eating birds in the world. They do have a tricky feeding schedule, but its not hard.

You butcher them when they are a month old and they call it cornish game hens, you wait till about 10 weeks and you have a 13 lb roaster that can't walk and are the best eating bird on Gods green earth. They are the fastest growing bird,so fast their legs can't support their weight.
