Had an absolute disaster this morning. After that monsoon last night, the roof collapsed on the pen. The tarp on top held water and the weight of it sent 2 full sheets of expanded metal crashing down inside the pen. Problem was, the way it fell I couldn't get inside the pen to move it, or get to the chickens which were trapped in one corner. Called a buddy who hadn't left for work yet and he came over to give me a hand. One of the birds was doing the one-legged boat paddle as i guess the metal hit it in the leg. We got it squared away and I got that chicken plucked and in the fridge. Cooked it for dinner tonight. I must say, I was quite amazed how much meat is on a 5 week old meat bird and how damn good it is. if the remaining 13 make it to 8 weeks, my family is in for some fine dining

They have become a lot of work. I am about ready for this project to be over with.

It's actually quite comical how many "friends" I have all of a sudden, being that chicken killin day is approaching. Everyone is wanting to help. I know exactly what will happen. People want to show up, drink beer, hold a cooler lid open, turn the water hose on,etc.. and expect to leave with bags full of chicken meat. Lmao, got news for them

Haha, well you know it's kind of like winning the chicken lottery. Friends and family come out of the woodwork to help you spend your $$. Now you know me and you have always been bffs though...so remember me when you kill that next bird! Ha, just kidding. :phear

It's fun to watch your progress on here.

We used to have chickens(over 30 at one point, mostly laying hens). I want to get a couple again, I miss fresh eggs every morning...

Yours sure did grow faster than mine. Funny how the different breeds work...
