2 more in a pen enjoying their last day on earth, and this will wrap up this project for the season...

Here is some quick math I put to it...
Hard to say how much per bird. I have been raising layer pullets in the same pen (and same feed) as the meaties, so this is a SWAG
10 birds @ $2 ------$20
4 bags feed @$20 (rounded up high for an even number)-----$80
$100 invested divided by 10 birds is $10/chicken
....Now, back out what the 6 layer pullets consumed in feed so I am estimating about $7/per chicken. Not too bad for some home grown 100% organic yard bird. The way it tastes compared to store bought is worth every penny

That's extra
:tung
I can use that for plucking turkeys and other stuff so I didn't include all those extras. Didn't include the scratch feed I gave them daily either as I have it to give my other chickens.
I'll upload the feather plucker video one day when I get time

$7 per chicken ain't bad at all! Especially when you know where they came from and what they ate. Those are some fine looking birds brother. Great job. :toast

Since I have been doing all this stuff, my family won't eat store bought eggs, pork or chicken. And she is begging me to go catch some fish.

I know it's a LOT easier to spend money on raising your own instead of giving it to some company that buys from who knows where at outrageously inflated prices. I almost popped a gasket on Monday when my wife got home from Publix with an $8 pack of bacon. :eek

I'm investing more in my garden plots in the next few weeks to start growing a LOT of what we eat. Sad thing is I don't have room to put out some chickens or turkeys. Probably ain't legal in the neighborhood I live in anyhow.

That's just wrong. Food shouldn't cost so much. Probably the 'bamament taxing the crap out of the private growers... So he can take multimillion dollar vacations.
