Removing hairs from wild pig for a whole roast. Possible?

Post by CWFAsian1129 » Sat Dec 10, 2011 2:59 pm

Hey guys, I was just wondering if a whole wild pig can be prepared to be roasted...

Ive done it few times with domesticated pig but is it possible to do it with a wild pig?

I heard they're kinda hard to prepare it.

What about burning the hair and scrape them off?

Sure, A pig is a pig!
Should be able to treat it just like a domestic one.
I always skin mine but lots of people scald and scrape their wild pigs.

Do I burn the hairs with a torch first or dip it in hot water first and scrape skin off? which first? lol....

You scald the hog first, then scrape the hair off. The idea is to pull the hair out by the roots. If you shave or torch it, you are leaving the base of the hair in the skin and it will be nasty. You can torch off a few hairs here and there that are hard to get to, but its gotta be scalded and scraped

I have not personally done one in a long time, but I suggest watching someone do it that knows what they are doing. If you get the water too hot, or let it sit in the water too long the hair will set and you can't scrape it off with a chain saw. A buddy of mine has a system down pat and swears the ideal temp is like 150*.

Ugh. My friends dad caught her a boar to roast for their weddin a couple years ago.

He tried getting all the hair off, but he was half lit when doing it. Ended up just shredding the meat and we ended up eating a LOT of hair before we ever even realized it.

It almost ruined pork for me for good.. makes me gag thinking about it.

Yeah, finding a hair in what you're eating can do that, especially when you don't expect it.

have done a whole hog a few times. The ideal water temp to dip the hog into is 142 degrees. The hair will pull right out. As it cools you can re-dip it. I usually will burn the short hair on the ears and snout.
