argentine mauser model 1891

Post by 30.06 » Thu Jun 21, 2012 10:08 am

anybody have any experience with this model gun? i can get one for 100. my dad has an old k98 8mm with nazi marks that was passed down to him by his stepfather. and i was just wondering if the 1891 is as good a rifle as the k98. just one more for the collection that i may wanna shoot at the range on occasion.

I have a Argentina Mauser. Love it. It was passed down to me as well. Not sure of the comparison you are making. All I know is its deadly accurate. I love shooting the thing.

the gun appears to be in good shape, however it has no iron sights, just scope mounts. it will probably be going in the collection. price is hard to beat.

are you looking to trade or sell it? might make a good platform for a custom gun.

i may have not made myself clear. i interested in an argentine mauser, 119 at the pawn shop. i was just wondering if this is one of the great mauser action rifles i have heard about. supposed to be very smooth? i wonder how available the ammo is, and how expensive. i can scope the rifle, may make a good gun for the woods, then i wouldnt have to take my great grandfathers m1903 out.

gotcha, what I was getting at is a lot of builders will gladly pay !00$ for certain mauser rifles, just for the receiver and bolt and toss the rest. add a new stock, bbl and trigger and have a custom gun with still (basicly) the worlds strongest/smoothest most accurate action.

so nacho if i wanted to turn this into a customized gun what would i need to do. or could i just use as is? i would need to look at the rifle again more closely b4 i purchased and make sure the rifling is crisp, make sure the action is smooth like it should be.

short answer, yes you might be able to use as is, if you can find ammo and there is nothing wrong with the condition of the gun. I'm not the one to ask which particular Mauser actions are most sought after for custom jobs. when produced for military purposes govt's generally wanted them fast and cheap and they were handled rough, to say the least. so bbl's, triggers and stocks were generally not the best by any means but they did want them strong and reliable (good receivers). if that gun is one of the desired mdl's a new bbl, trigger and stock (sized to fit YOU to a tee) assembled and fitted/lapped and polished as needed by a good smith or amateur tinkerer and you would have the gun of a lifetime. price would depend greatly on the parts you want but you won,t need to get the very best to have a fantastic rifle for about the same $ as a pos from waly-world. not counting the scope. plus you would be able to get it in almost any caliber bbl length/shape style you want, stock also.

if there are no iron sights on it I'd venture to guess it has already been customized to some degree already. by who and how well is anybody's guess. 100$ sounds low and I'd imagine a pawn shop sells alot of guns and know their worth pretty well. do some homework and maybe bring someone that knows Mausers to look at it, maybe ask a smith what to look for.

well nacho i have always wanted to build a m1903 sporter. I have my great grandfathers, it is a beautiful rifle, and i do not like to take it to the woods. my grgrampa was a machinist and very particular abouthis weapons, the weapons that have survived him are all beautiful collection pieces. he also left an 03 barrel, and a couple bolts, firing pins, springs, the magazine/trigger housing, and various other parts and pieces. all i really need for this project is a springfield armory reciever, a trigger and a stock. I want to build mine as a more modern tack driver. black composite stock, black barrel and reciever and bolt. modern scope. i want to have my name engraved like my great grandfathers so i have something to enjoy and pass down myself. would i be better off to wait and build this dream gun? i would probably take this to dow arms in dade city to be built. unless i could find someone to mentor me with my first build.

the mauser. the 03 springfield and rem 700 are prob the top 3 choices. savage is less expensive and easier to work with and will make good shooters. I have a rifle and pistol at Dows right now getting work done. if the springfield bbl is of sentimental value I don't think I'd try and put it on a mauser, might be like putting ketchup on a hot dog. I'd rather go with a modern bbl. no need for ketchup lovers to respond, lol.
