I have some 165 gr hornady ammo. Not sure where black hammock is though. I would sell or trade it if you are interested. Also have a box of brass too.

How much do you have and how much do you want?houseofmicah wrote:I have some 165 gr hornady ammo. Not sure where black hammock is though. I would sell or trade it if you are interested. Also have a box of brass too.

Hey...hey easy there. I just happen to need some 308 ammo to sight in my scope, 165 gr sounds just right. If there is enough to split let me know, I'll pitch in.

you are gonna loose some velocity with that length bbl, but realistically with a premium bullet like a partition and 200 yds or less a 130 gr will perform like a 270 (flat shooting/long range), a 180-200gr for a hog thumper, or imo the one that will do all at any range, a 150gr.

I have been reading up on that, some say its +/- 100 fps/ per inch of loss using the same grain. I was thinking about staying in that 150 gr to 165 gr range as a lot of Rem 7 308 shooters are reporting their best results using similar rounds.nachogrande wrote:you are gonna loose some velocity with that length bbl, but realistically with a premium bullet like a partition and 200 yds or less a 130 gr will perform like a 270 (flat shooting/long range), a 180-200gr for a hog thumper, or imo the one that will do all at any range, a 150gr.

I only have one box of ammo and one box of once fired brass. Maybe trade for a box of .223 hollow points. I have no use for the ammo as I no longer have a .308.

Re: 308 vs 7mm-08 - Need opinions
I seriously doubt you would loose 100 fps/inch, more like 30-50 fps/", and you could make up most of that lost velocity with diff powders/primers, if you re-loaded. load info for a 308 with a 18 1/2" bbl may not be easy to find though. even if you only got 2500 fps, with a premium bullet & 200 yds or less you'd still be ok. each bullet has an optimum velocity for peak performance, and the partition is a wide range. figure a 170 gr 30-30 is lucky to reach 2,000 fps.

I have a Mossberg SSI Single Shot .308 that is a Tack Driver. But I wanted a faster follow up shot so I also have a Mossberg 4X4 Bolt Action 30-06 and I have to say I Totally Love This One Also. It Is Also A Tack Driver. I have had a Remington 700 BDL and a Savage 111 Classic Hunter in 30-06 but Nothing compares to this Mossberg 4X4. I hope this helps.

If you ever want to get rid of those Mossberg rifles, let me know. I have $300 whenever you are ready, as long as they are scoped. They are mimms part cheap junk which may last for a 1000 rounds.ELS wrote:I have a Mossberg SSI Single Shot .308 that is a Tack Driver. Not sure which caliber BDL you had, but I've never seen one right out of the box not shoot 2" groups at 100 yds or better
TCR you did fine on that model 7!

The BDL I had was a 30-06. I am willing to bet you have Never owned a Mossberg SSI or a 4X4. My SSI has shot well over 1000 Shots and my 4X4 is well on the way to shooting that many and many more. Neither has ever given be a bit of problems and both are Very well built. 300 dollars would not make a down payment on either one. In fact both shoot so good they will Never be for sale in my life time. You should give one a try sometime. Perhaps if you shoot a real gun like these and you will change your sad opinion.

Re: 308 vs 7mm-08 - Need opinions
The SSI is a copy of A Ruger #1, which it is definitely just an attempt at a copy. Can't speak for the 4x4 but it's a $400 gun NIB. Glad you are pleased with them. Wonder how they'd perform in freezing temperatures lower than 40 degrees. The truth being whoever ends up with them once your gone will have $300 worth of used junk. Compare your SSI to a Ruger #1 built 30-40 years ago and the two are completely different and that's why a 30-40 year old #1 in 90% or better shape sells for $750 and up but only cost $169 new.

LOL, gee GB, why don't you kick his dog while you are at it, but your facts are not wrong as usual. gotta let him learn the hard way like most of us did that it's cheaper IN THE LONG RUN, to buy quality one time and use it for life, than buy lesser quality 3-4 times over 30 or more years. and for anyone interested I will be holding a sensitivity training class next month.
